Gladys M. Hartに関してもう少し調べてみたところ、Hoag Levinsの『American Sex Machines』(Adams Media, 1996)に以下の記述を見つけた(pp.172-174)。

Gladys M. Hart utilized the bra structure as a support system for the first low-priced hearing aid systems introduced by Zenith Radio Company in 1943. In 1945, Hart applied for a patent for a brassiere that included a sewn-in compartment for batteries and an amplifier. Her invention would, she wrote, "not only serve as an uplift brassiere but, also, as a comfortable and convenient support for the parts of hearing aid equipment, other than the ear piece, so that the wearing of such equipment by women afflicted with impaired hearing is rendered inconspicuous, without in any way diminishing the operating efficiency of the equipment."

どうやら、唐沢俊一の言う「ブラジャー型の補聴器」のネタ元は、この文章だと断定していいだろう。というのも、この本の邦訳『快楽特許許可局』(イースト・プレス、1999年5月)は、「監訳」に唐沢俊一の名を記しているからだ。

しかし、「胸の表面で音を感じる」なんてネタ、Levinsは一言も書いていない。どう読んでも「補聴器付きブラジャー」だ。また、Levinsは「1945年に特許出願(applied for a patent)」と書いているのであって、特許をとったのが1945年とは書いていない。実際、U. S. Patent No.2436430の出願は1945年4月10日で、特許取得は1948年2月24日だ。何かこう、唐沢俊一は英語が全く読めてないように思えるのは、私だけだろうか？

読めないのではなくて、読まない

　現在、唐沢さんは、若いときと打って変って、猛烈に仕事が増えて、
売れっ子作家となっていますので、細かい英文を読んで意味を考えるような
「効率の悪い」仕事はしないんでしょう。
　極端な話、唐沢俊一の文章は全部が「ネタ」と考えたっていい。
本人も、決して、学術書として扱われることは望んでないでしょう。

ま、唐沢俊一に関しては、そうなんでしょうけど。でも実は、このネタ、マンガとして見ても「絵がヘン」なんですよ。どうも、ソルボンヌK子にU. S. Patent No.2436430を全く見せないまま、マンガを描かせてるんじゃないかと。
