PAEないと、以下のようなメッセージ出してインストールできません

XP時代のハードウェアは10は愚か8もサポートしていない。
従って無理。

pae(physical address extensionだっけか)がないPentiumMとかではたぶん動かないよ
win8は動かない

Baniasコア ==> NG
Dothanコア ==> OK
このあたりが境目らしいですね。

Dothan でも低電圧版のM738なんかはダメです。
そういえばThinkpad X40シリーズはPAE有無が混じっていて、最近のubuntuがインストールできないという話題がありましたね。

Windows 8.1 の CPU 要件に「PAE、NX、SSE2のサポート」というのがあります。
これらが必須でなくなっているかもしれませんが、そのままだとすると、
・Prescott より前の Pentium 4: ダメ
・Prescott: LGA775 版の一部なら対応していそう
・Prescott-2M, CedarMill: たぶん大丈夫
という感じですかね。
