To Whom It May Concern:
I recently visited the FCC Kids Zone Room
(http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/kidszone/room_items.html)
and was appalled by a case of blatant copyright violation.
To be more specific, "Boardband", the robot that appears
on the said home page, is an unmistakable copy of
"Doraemon", a character in a popular 25 year old
Japanese cartoon.
The similarities between the two are striking and leave
no doubt that whoever created "Broadband" stole his ideas
from the original author of "Doraemon." The followings
are links to images of "Broadband" and "Doraemon"
for your reference:
Just to show how popular the cartoon is in Japan and
how serious this case is, the box-office of the most recent
movie of the series is 3,050,000,000 yen (about $30 million).
The show enjoys immense popularity not only in Japan
but also in a number of Asian countries including, but not
limited to, China, Korea, Taiwan, Singapore and Malaysia.
As somebody who enjoyed the show as a child,
I am utterly dismayed by the irony that the FCC,
which is the very governmental body in charge of the enforcement
of copyright laws, does not respect the copyright of the cartoon.
I would like you to take immediate steps to stop the operation
of the website and to remove all the images of "Broadband" from it
as soon as possible. I HAVE ALREADY CONTACTED THE ORIGINAL
COPYRIGHT HOLDER TO DISCUSS OPTIONS, INCLUDING A POSSIBLE LAWSUIT
AGAINST THE FCC.
I appreciate in advance for your timely response.
I look forward to hearing from you very soon.
