Why Should You Boycott Apple?
There are some people who are ready to boycott Apple for what they're doing in a court of law: they are defending their patents, specifically against Samsung, trying to get the court to say "No more Samsung Android devices should come into the country 'cause they're infringing on our patents that we have filed." You know, a lot of companies have patents. Like every company has patents. Even Google has patents. What Apple decides to do with their patents, this is kind of up to them. They're just protecting their business, and business is about one thing. No, not you, not really even customers, profits.
Patent reform needs to happen. I am not a fan of software patents, and I think they need to be eliminated. Imagine if someone would come along and patent music. That'd be silly, wouldn't it. Well it's just as silly to patent software, at least in my mind. So I would hope for patent reform, specifically with software, but until then, well, the courts are doing their job, and businesses are doing their job.

Appleが法廷の場でやっていることに抗議してApple製品をボイコットしようと言う人達がいる。Appleがやってるのは自分たちの特許を（具体的にはSamsungから）守ろうということで、「SamsungのAndroid機器は我々が届け出ている特許を侵害しており、これ以上この国に入ってくるべきではない」というのを判決として引き出そうとしているわけだ。特許を持っている会社は沢山ある。どの会社もこの会社も、Googleだって特許は持っている。Appleが自分たちの特許で何をしようが、それは言ってみればAppleの勝手だ。彼らは自分たちの商売を守っているだけであって、商売の関心というのは一つ。慈善事業ではなく、顧客のためですら実はなく、利益のためにやっているのだ。
特許制度の改正は必要だ。私はソフトウェアへの特許には反対で、無くさなくてはいけないと思う。音楽に特許をかける人がいたら馬鹿みたいだろ？少なくとも私のなかでは、ソフトウェアに特許をかけるのも同じくらい馬鹿なことだ。なので特許制度は、特にソフトウェアに関しては、改正して欲しいが、まだそうはなってないわけで法廷も企業もそれぞれの仕事をしてるだけだよ。

Why Internet Boycotts Usually Fail
That's kind of like being a slacktivist. You know, coming out and tweeting and saying "Oh! Those people are so wrong!" and... and then expecting that you're done? It really doesn't do anything. I mean, yes, you may have millions of twitter followers, but what are you doing? A tweet is not action. It takes nothing to make a tweet. Changing your life, getting out there and changing life, that's taking action. I mean, boycotts can absolutely work. But the problem with using the internet, I mean beyond coordinating, and that's a good thing, is that people think they're done after they send an e-mail or sign a petition. That's... that's just the tip of the iceberg. It usually takes a lot of work to make change. But the internet's made it easy for us to say what it is we believe in. Now the question in this is: are you gonna back up your words?
