このころには 一般には Remington (Standard No. 2?)のシフト操作は所望のUpper Case大文字等を打鍵する間は depress and holdになってたらしく思えてきた、、

Webコラムに McGurrinが1888年7月に使用したマシンでの大文字打鍵の操作手順について記述があった。

この中の記述を基に 幾つか推論を進めてしまっていたのだが

推論の前提に置いていた記述について まずは確認しておかなくてはならなかった。

McGurrin本人による Shift-keyに関する所感については　次あたりに 何か記されているかもしれない。

Ths shift-key should be depressed with the fourth finger, and the space bar struck with the thumb of the right hand.

Depressing the shift-key on the Remington is, as stated above, purely mechanical. In addition to this, it requires no time. The method commonly in use, of depressing the shift-key first, and ten (テキスト化の まま。正しくは） then striking the capital desired, is erroneous. The proper way is to make the depression of the shift-key and the stroke of the letter exactly simultaneous. A perfect capital letter will be obtained in this way without loss of time.
