Based on the analysis result of "Compile Option" in Pro-G's "DivX Converter", it shows that the same file name as the source codes of DeCSS, DVD2avi, bbMPEG, and Lame exist. This software supposedly be based on GPL so wouldn't there be an obligation to disclose the source code of "DivX Converter"? Also Dollby AC-3 Decoder is included but do they have a license agreement with Dollby? But first of all wouldn't selling a software with DeCSS mounted be illegal in Japan? This sure is a software with lots of controversies.
If all these sourses are passively linked to the software itself, it's violating the GPL of DeCSS and DVD2avi but also LGPL of Lame. Of course this software can't be legal at the point where bbMPEG, which cannot be modified except on redistribution, is included. Only the developpers can accuse them but we would like this issues to be fully disclosed.
Suspected GPL violation by Dvi-X Converter by PRO-G
The trial version of "DviX Converter", sold by PRO-G, is suspected to utilize source codes from GPL'ed softwares of DeCSS, DVD2avi, bbMPEG, and Lame. This is discovered by analysis of compilation options. It also includes Dollby AC-3 decoder which must be licensed by Dollby. It is also doubtful if it is legal to sell softwares with DeCSS in Japan. Moreover, bbMPEG is a "freeware" which inhibits distribution with modification.
